ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Jaci Leigh Smith, San Diego Artist

Jaci Leigh Smith was born in Salt Lake City, the middle of three children and the only girl. Her father ran the family grocery business his grandfather started in the 1930’s. Jaci worked in the stores from a young age, learning firsthand what running a business requires. At 16, Jaci was balancing ledgers for ten stores in Texas and New Mexico.

After leaving Salt Lake City at 18 to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, Jaci discovered a deep connection to the cultural arts. While not formally a student of the arts, Jaci realized that she had something artistic inside of herself and she wanted to find a way to expand it. Her opportunity came while visiting her father in Maui after graduating with a business degree. They painted together and Jaci knew that she had found her passion.

Over the years Jaci has traveled and lived throughout Europe painting and studying the great Impressionists. She moved back to Southern California in 2004 and studied under a private instructor for 3 years refining her style. Jaci’s preferred medium is oil on canvas. She paints her impressionistic interpretation of natural scenes with the vibrant colors that she loves.
